Associate Professor Mark Merolli
Owner & Clinical Director
A/Professor (University of Melbourne), PhD
APA Titled Sports & Exercise Physiotherapist
I’ve spent most of my 20 year clinical career working in well-established musculoskeletal and sports medicine settings. This has helped me develop a keen interest in more complex clinical diagnostic reasoning, the rehabilitative side of injury management (including strength & conditioning), and restoration of normal functioning. I treat a range of musculoskeletal conditions but have a keen clinical interest in tendon issues, shoulder and knee injuries, back and neck pain.
Over the years, I’ve been privileged to work with various professional sporting associations and teams, in particular: Tennis Australia and Basketball Australia, as well as various other professional and amateur sporting organisations across football (e.g. AFL, Soccer, NFL).
When I’m not in the clinic, I’m over at the University of Melbourne where I completed my PhD, teach, and research. There, I’m an Associate Professor in Physiotherapy. My expertise is in digital health technologies. My interests surround the use of different technologies to support physiotherapy care. I regularly consult and teach courses on this area to other health professionals locally and internationally.

Whether you’re an elite athlete or just trying to get through the week without a flare-up, my goal is to make sure you get back to whatever is meaningful to you. My Approach: First and foremost, I practice evidence-based physiotherapy. I’ll provide proven assessment and treatment techniques to ensure you get the best care. 1. Education: We’ll break down why it hurts, so you know what happened, and what needs to be done to best avoid this in the future. 2. Exercise: We’ll build a data-driven plan to make you stronger and more resilient. 3. Manual Therapy: Hands-on techniques to manage symptoms and get you moving sooner.
I have a special interest in hips, knees, ankles, and tendinopathies. Beyond sports injuries, I’m passionate about helping people navigate back pain and bone health (including osteoporosis), as I have advanced training in spinal care practice through the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
Why I Do This: I’ve spent plenty of time on the treatment table myself. Having traversed my own journey of injuries - both at the peak of my sporting career (Canadian university football player) and staying active as I get older - I know exactly how frustrating the road to recovery can be. When I’m not in the clinic, you’ll find me in the gym, on a reformer, losing golf balls, or wandering the halls of IKEA. Associated clubs: AFL umpires, State netball - Team Victoria
